The first week of the New Year is over at the box office, and the movies mostly did what was expected. After the long and profitable holiday season, movie sales have been going down more than usual. The only movie that has yet to drop much is Ved, a Marathi romantic thriller directed by Riteish Deshmukh. It came out over the New Year’s weekend, so it got little of a boost from the Christmas season. Since there aren’t any new big movies coming out this weekend, we can expect the movies that are already out to do better than they would have if another big movie had come out.

After Titanic and Avatar 2, James Cameron has his third big hit in India (2009). In terms of the worldwide box office, it became the highest-grossing movie of 2022 yesterday, beating out Top Gun: Maverick in just 20 days. It is worth 1.5 billion dollars and will soon be in the club of things worth 2 billion dollars. It will be the third and sixth Cameron movie to make more than $2 billion worldwide.
Drishyam 2 will be ahead of Cirkus, which is in its third week.
Drishyam 2, starring Ajay Devgn, will be one of the few movies in India to run for more than 50 days. The movie is still doing well at the box office and might reach Rs. 1 cr net for the last time this weekend. It will be shown off even more than last week. Cirkus, which Ranveer Singh stars in and is directed by Rohit Shetty, has had a terrible second week and is about to close in theatres. In its eighth week, Drishyam 2 will make more money than Cirkus did in its third week. This says it all for movies like Cirkus, which didn’t even do well at first.
New Movies About Ponga l and Sankranthi Will Take Over the Box Office:
Up to four big movies will appear in India next week. After Drishyam 2, an Indian movie will finally make more than Rs. 15 cr. Four films are coming out this Sankranthi/Pongal season: two Tamil movies, Varisu and Thunivu, and two Telugu movies, Veera Simha Reddy and Waltair Veerayya. All four are expected to make more than Rs. 15 cr nett on their first day in India. We don’t usually go almost two months without a major movie release from India, but that’s what happened this time.
